My 02 LQ9 has zero piston slap. The 00 4.8 did.

Its pretty loud, at first I thought a valve had dropped or crank bearing gone, but when it went away that ruled them out??? With the windows up and radio on low you can hear it. I've never heard piston slap before ether so it very well could be. Thanks

Try some Lucas. Might help a little
Some people don't have any. Mine had it when i got it. and Some people say it sounds like a diesel. So it just varies. I run 10w30 syn instead of 5w30 but i don't know if that's why i haven't heard it.

when using the thin 5w30 our motors tick more then they do with a heavier oil. 10w30 helped quit down my 5.3. later on when i was a 6.0 i used 20w50 and had no slap or noise from motor
