6.0 in the making!
ok so i finally picked up a 6.0 lq9, i was told it came from an 05 caddy escalade and only had ~75k on it. im going to take it by cal speed and performance and have jim and his guys give it a once over. but i would like input from you all as to performance mods i should do before i get in installed. i am looking at the 6.0 hop up part 2 article from hrm (http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/e...pt_2/test.html) and i am really interested in the 210/218-531/531 on a 114 crane cam #1449551, i like the torque band. this seems to be the same cam that vinci sells under the 043 towing and performance, the thing is, im looking for a fat power band and good performing top end, without an excessively rough idle or compromised power band. i was also looking at the vinci ultra torque (210/218-551/551-on a 116).
i basically am going for a smooth idle but with a really broad power band with all the torque of the stocker, plus some topend. is that even possible?

I say call comp cams' tech line & talk with someone. tell 'em what you have & what you want it to do & they'll spec a cam for you. Then look around for cams with those those approximate specs, talk with people who already have it, look on youtube for sound clips.
IMO, I would go a little bigger than a 210 or 212 duration in a 6.0. If you want it to sound stock, look at the 114 & up LSAs

This one would be a good choice. https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...d.php?t=485064

I called and talked to roger at vinci high performance, first we discussed the 043 but he said that i should go with something with more lift and it would definitely have some lope on the 114 lsa. from the way he described it the 080 sounds like the one i want, he said it has a really broad torque curve that is an improvement in hp and tq over the stock cam everywhere, and smooth idle.

stock trans for now, but after i get the engine ready to go in, when the 5.3 comes out the trans will too and it will be getting built, and the new engine/trans will go in together. i thought about an aftermarket converter but if i do it will be the lowest stall 300mm circleD i can get, i just dont think i really want that high of a stalling converter... especially with such a torqy cam, if i didnt mind having a 3000+ i would go with the trucker cam or such, i just want it really stealthy (no idle note) and torqy... idk give me some input if you think it wouldnt be if i went the other way, im open to all suggestions.

ok update:
got the engine torn apart and it had had some water in the cylinders for a while and left some rust on the cylinder walls, so im having it bored .030 over. my engine builder tells me that wiseco makes a forged piston that re uses the stock 6.098 rods, and they come with rings, so im thinking of going that direction to save a little cash, but the pistons have a 4cc dome to them i just dont want to push the compression out of pump gas range. the pdf in the link below says that the .030 over piston will be 11.2:1 . Anyone think that my compression ratio would be too high? i was taking into account dynamic compression also, it just seems like it might be a little on the high side, and especially if i decide to go f.i. later. by the way i should mention im thinking of going with l92 heads, but i havent made up my mind on it yet, im not sure if the combustion chamber is larger or smaller than the 317's and the wiseco piston is part number PT124H3 here on this pdfhttp://www.wiseco.com/Catalogs/ProTr...rChevrolet.pdf
