Default 6.0 questions paging BIGtex,parish, 6.0 guys

Some guy a has a COMPLETE 6.0 motor its a GM surplus motor he acutally has 2 but hes not sure wether its an LQ9 or Lq4 he said when he bought htem they told him it was the latest year 02-03 but he tells me it has steel heads? i thought both the new LQ9 and the LQ4 had aluminum heads? what motor does he have? is there anythign on the motor that can distinguish between year and type? he tried calling dealers wiht the serial number but since its surplus they cant tell him either... and if i get htis motor and it does have iron heads what heads should i put on there for my kit?

The 99-00 lq4 motors are the only ones with cast iron head the part # is 12561873. The last three digits will be stamped on the heads. I believe those year blocks are interchangable, but have problems with crank length and i believe they cant be bored very much. If your will to put down the bucks. The Lq9 and ls6 heads are pritty much idenitical flowing heads. Both are aluminum.

Just out of curiosity, where did you get that 035 head part number? Was this from a source by Chris Endres? He has his facts messed up on the 6 liter cylinder heads. Apparently, he thinks the LQ9 has a different cc volume chanber that accounts for the differnece in compression. I have never seen an 035 head. I have a LQ9 in my SS and it has 317 heads. The LQ9 out of the Escalade I just sold had 317 heads. I have looked at several 02 Escalades, and the same head are on them. I think the 035 head is a myth.

my 01 6.0 heads are 317s,GMHTP says LQ4 2001 up are P/N 12562317.Then they say 2002 LQ9 6.0 is P/N 12572035 but this border line rag doesnt give a casting number for that head.Bastards.Some so called experts think there is a difference in port design in these heads while others are saying they are the same.I am going with them being the same based on having the same casting #s according to BiG-TeX
