6.0 Tow Motor
I have a 2002 Chevy 1/2ton 4x4 with a 4.8L & an Auto.Im looking at putting a low mile LQ4 into the truck for more towing power.I have not found a motor yet but Im looking at those places on EBAY that sells low mile takeouts.Im limited on the money and I will do the work myself.I need the 9.0 cmp/ratio for 87 octain and Im going to put a good fresh air intake and a set of full length headers on it(If they have them available).I looking at an aftermarket cam for more torq. The cam is from Vincihighperformance.com the specs are
Dur@ .004" 272/280
Dur@ .050" 210/218
Lift .551/.551
LSA 116
Please feal free to suggest a diffrent cam
Any input on the combination is welcome.Im located in Mooresville NC if you know any shops that may help with the swap. Thanks for your time.

sounds like a plan. all you need from the motor is the long block (block and heads). you should be able to get this cheap and use all your stock accessories. The swap will just be like taking out the motor and putting it back in. On the outside everything will look the same. They you'll just need a tune for the new motor.

IMO that cam is to big for a towing/torque motor. If it was me I would got with something about 208/210 or 208/208. That cams power will be off idle definately in the 6.0 and with the added wieght of a 4x4.
Cam
and use ls6 springs. You can keep it a small budget also.

I think the 212/218 would be fine in the 6.0 for towing. The 6.0 having more cubes than a 5.3 will eat up "smaller" cams. I'm going to be running this setup in my 5.3...
208/214 .554/.559 110lsa
And that is gonna be for off-the-line performance and low-down grunt. I rarely get it above 5k, but if I do, the cam will pull until about 6k give or take some. I would say go with either a 210 or 212 intake and a 216-218 exhaust with a lower LSA, probably around 114 or 112 so the power can come on quicker.

That cam is a good choice for what you plan to do. I have a 1500HD 4x4 and I am using a 212/218 low lift comp cam in it. I tuned it to run on 87 octane and 91 octane. I also tow a 24' enclosed race car trailer, that fully loaded weighs 6000lbs. It pulls much better then when it had the stock cam. I have to traverse a hill going to the track, which goes from about 1200' to 2710' in a matter of about 10 miles. With 91 octane, I can find myself easily pulling past most commuter traffic (~70 MPH). I also have a gibson exhaust, AFE intake and Pacesetter LTs. Now mind you, I have the 4L80E with the 2.48 first gear. If you plan to keep the 4L60E, with the 3.06 first gear, you will have great low end pull from a stop.
