Stock vs stock the 6.0 (lq4) is a let down... add a few parts and it'll excel.

very true. was gonna pull valve cover and check it if sludge is built up or anything else. not much you can do in the junk yard.

If you're going FI, then the LQ4 is my engine of choice. It has the 317 heads that flow nice with low compression. I'd stick with a semi-mild cam like a GT2-3, LS6, Trucker or similar. Buying used is no problem... pull the valve covers and look for potential coolant leak (brown sludge), pull the plugs and if you can try to turn it over.
