Default 6.0l Header questions

I've got a 2000 Silverado 2500 with the 6.0l. Now this is my work truck not performance oriented. It's got a cracked passenger exhaust manifold and some of the bolt heads have snapped off on both sides. I'm looking into new manifolds for it and the dealer wants so damn much. For the same price range I figured I could get some shorty headers that way the leak is fixed, I gain 5-10hp, better looks and better sound. The price of the BBK headers at Jegs looks nice but I keep reading about the Pacesetter longtubes and all the benefits of going with the longtubes. Only problem is it's not a direct boltin and I can't use the Ypipe because the 6.0l has a true dual into one type of setup so I'd have to get a exhaust shop to fab up everything. What exactly would I need to do to get the Pacesetters working with the stock exhaust? I'm in Vermont so I'm sure that I need to keep the cats. Am I mistaken, but I believe I would also need to have it tuned after aswell?

Edelbrock had some shortys for like $250 that weld into the factory intermediate pipes. Not sure if you can get that price anymore, but it might be worth looking in the classifieds on this site.

from what i understand, the Gen3 manifolds flow just about the same as a set of shorties, so it's a lot more worth it to go ahead with the LTs and tune. it'll cost a little more, but you'll not only gain power, but economy, too

I had to trim the inside of the top A-arm mounts to clear my Stainless Works headers. They were advertised to fit a 4x4, none were listed for 2WD. I had to reconfigure the stock pipes, but left the cats in the stock location.

Yea, the 2500hd exhaust is different than the y piped 5.3. If you look for silverado ss headers you might find some dual ones, but I'm not sure about the 2500hd/6.0/4wd/4l80e long tube fitment. I think there's some obx silverado ss long tubes on ebay for under 500. I'm sure the stock muffler alone is killing 15hp.

I have a 04 2500hd that I did the pacesetters on. Its really easy for an exhaust shop to mate your stock midpipes up to the longtubes. They just had to cut some of the stock midpipe off and make short connection pipes. At first I had them leave the pup cats and the main cats, but this ended up being way more quiet than the stock manifolds were. So I had them remove the little pre cats and now it sounds great with a magnaflow 2 in single out muffler.

And I wouldnt waste your time with the shorties, I doubt you would gain any hp at all.
