Question 6.0L Swap?????

Hey everyone,
I've got a 2006 GMC Sierra 5.3L w/ 4L60E trans and I wanna swap in a 6.0L (preferebly and LQ9). What is entirely involved in the swap?? I'd like to swap in a 8.1L, but I don't know if that'd work haha I am also wondering what is the best turbo system availible for my truck. Thanks Everyone!!

I too have a 2006 and have been on this site for 2 months looking into doing the same thing. Just keep on studying. This site along with GMHTech, LS2, LS1truck have a wealth of info.

I love my swap, but I'd be damned if I'd do it on a 2006 5.3 truck. Enjoy what ya got for awhile. If you really plan on going FI, maybe get that sorted and tuned in first before swapping out a perfectly good motor. The difference is noticeable, but prob. not what you're thinking. The pair of you guys are nuts!

I hear what your saying and have considered a lot of options. A 5.3 CCSB is definetly lacking in the power/torque dept. There is no "seat of the pants". Enjoying the truck isn't the issue and I love my truck. I traded my EC for the crew so that my kids would have more room, so a "new" gmc is not new to me. The deal I got was fantastic, couldn't pass it up. Hypothetically speeking, as long as I own this truck, the 5.3 will never need replacing, I'm not gonna wear it out. Whenever I get into one of the other company vehicles, a '03 SS silvy, as mine is technically a company vehicle, I say "now that's a whole lot better". I figured to get the 5.3 more enjoyable: air intake, exhaust, cam, tune, yank. That was the route I was originally going. For a short stack more, relatively speaking, an lq4 has got to have quite a bit more potential. I figure at least 50 more horse than the 5.3 route. Dollars per horse I do not think you can beat a 6.0l.

Agreed. A 6.0L can be had for less actually than the mods you mentioned.
