650$ what to do
Hey everybody, I have a pretty simple question, I just bought a ECSB 2005 sierra 4wd with the L33 5.3 and 4L60E. Its 100% stock(besides leveling kit, 4" rear blocks, and 305/70 pro comps on stock wheels. NO intake NO exhaust, NOTHING. Im taking the small lift out and putting stock tires back on it tomarrow. Im looking to get a little more performance out of it. I have 650$ cash right now to get started on modding. Do I start with the simple cold air and catback, which should run right at 650? Or do I do DNA headers/y and a catback for about 650 but still have stock intake(headers help more than intake)? Or option 3, do I get a circle d 3000-3200 stall and a mail-order tune for around 650 and have stock intake and exhaust still? Now I own a 99 LS1 camaro that i've had 3 different stalls in, ranging from 3000-4000rpm, so I know exactly what a stall can do in a LS car/truck (I picked up 6/10ths in the quarter in my maro with just a 4000 stall a good tune and sticky tires). But does it make sense to put a stall in and tune in with stock intake and full stock exhaust? Anybody had a 100% stock truck with a 3000 or so stall? Any help would be appreciated. THANKS!

Another factor is that I just bought this truck last week. Its financed for 5 years and it has to last that long, so im not too big on pulling the tranny out of a vehicle im financing for 5 years. BUT I DEFFINANTLY WILL. I did it on my camaro. Ive even had the engine out of my camaro twice while I still owed on it. But I feel much safer throwing a intake and exhaust on it than pulling a piece of the driveline apart. With the stall I also have to factor in the 100$ or so of tranny fluid I need, and possibly a bigger tranny cooler? Can the stock tranny coolers handle the bigger stall? I know my camaro trans lasted 2500 miles when I put in my first stall and didnt put a cooler in.

If it was me, i would do a good tune on it and then when your ready for more serious mods start doing headers, cam, heads, whatever you want.. with alot of performance mods one thing leads to another..

I'd get a tune with an exhaust and intake, and save the rest to start getting some major stuff done..

Cat back has been shown to gain very little power, I would just go with a 3" Magnaflow welded in place of the stock muffler ($400+ vs $100 for the same power gains). Same with intake, very little gains shown over stock (I didn't notice a difference); like said above, go with a K&N drop in filter.
But definitely spend on a tune, Wheatley, Nelson or Blackbear are all good and sponsors on here. A 278mm Circle D converter, 3000 or 3200, would be lots of fun and really get the truck moving quickly from a stop (need a TruCool 40k trans cooler to go with it, around $110 and easy install). Then a mild cam after that, like a low-lift 212/218. Vette servo is a great idea for only $15 and will help your transmission life.
