Check the vin # of the vehicle the engine came out of. If the 8th digit is a U the engine is a LQ4 if it is a N it is a LQ9.
The LQ9 has stronger rods and flat top pistons giving it 345HP vs 300HP for the LQ4.The flat top pistons give it a higher compression ratio. Sorry not sure of the exact ratio but maybe something like 10.1 vs 9.2? Otherwise the engines are the same I believe.
