799 head problems ??
I have a 2006 sierra ext cab 4x4 with an L33 engine. I have 185,000 miles on it now. I bought the truck new and have had few problems. I did notice it using oil since it was still under warranty. I have read the postings on here about the castech heads and this sounds exactly like the problem I am having. My truck has 799 heads and I am wondering if these are known to have the problems also? I have not had time to pull the valve covers to see if they are castech heads or not. Did castech make the 799 heads?
Also- I have a very overactive PCV system. I have to drain 8 oz. of oil out of a catch can from my drivers side PCV line every Sunday. What can be done to fix this correctly?

I should have given more info. I suspect the baffle is the problem with the oil consumption. I am wondering if a new set of valve covers will fix this or will I have the same problem again? I can only imagine what a set of GM valve covers cost $$$$$
I oil I am draining from my catch can looks like creamy coffee. Very light tan in color. Looks to me like oil/coolant. This is why I thought of the cracked haed problem. Could just be a head gasket but I was trying to do some homework before I pulled it all apart. If the 799 heads could be the problem; then I was going to buy a replacement set to put on quickly while I have the truck tore apart. This is my daily driver.

Ah, I see. Castech did some 243's, so I would bank they did some 799's too, given they are identical.
That said, as mentioned before, the 243 and 799 seemed to be fine.
It's not that hard to pull a valve cover to check for the castech logo, but not all castech heads are duds that with cracking issues.
