Default 8 fricking hours to install Gibson shorties!

I got them for $199 plus free shipping from Truck Performance, I know they're not as good as long tubes but the deal was to good to pass up. It only took about 2 1/2 hours to get the stock stuff off and install the driver side header, fit like a glove. The passenger side on the other hand was totally F#$%^&D UP! Nothing lined up, I had to call a friend who used to be a mechanic in his younger days for help. SOS! One of the holes in the head got cross threaded and the first tap I bought was bad, had to buy another one. By now I'm ready to had a total melt down, Stevens personality keeps me calm though, nothing ruffles his feathers. Finally got the passenger side buttoned up, 5 hours later. I haven't even driven it yet, just brought it up to temp and now I'm letting it cool down so I can re-torque the bolts. I thought I would save some $$ and do this my self but $hit like this is why I have my mechanic do most of my work, I'm spent!

Hey dude, every time I install something myself, something goes wrong like that, but in the end, it is worth it to look and say I did that **** all by myself and next time I will know what not to do. Now pat yourself on the back and have a cold one.

And I thought 7 hours for my ASM's were long. Hope you don't have to replace them in a couple of years...

What is your next mod? Looks like a cam would go good with that TC.

BTW, anyone look into the Crane 208/216 .530/.530 113 lsa or the Crane 208/216 .500/.500 113 lsa?

man that does suck... first time i put on my headers it took me a while to do it. i was still pretty new to all this stuff then. Now i can pull those off and have them back on in ~hour.

lets not start on cam installs tho week and a half so far lol. i think i lost a pint of blood in the few hours i worked on it today from scratches and what not, need to get another catch bucket and ship it to red cross

Headers are evil. They are sent here by because he knows that we will buy them and put them on for our addiction of more power. Headers on every car Ive ever owned have alway been a pain in the A$$.

Accept on my evil-ex-girlfriend's supercharged Honda, that was easy because there was only one and it was right there infront. My Drag car eats up the gaskets and has ALWAYS leaked no mater what headers its had, I think the 2" primaries have something to do with it. My Grand National was fun because it has to come acrost and Y into the passengers side.

But if for $200.oo for the headers if you get a noticeable diference its worth it. Let us know how it turns out.

I see you have PPIII and a GMS MAF. I do too. I was told these are not compatable and can cause detonation and knock. I have not seemed to have these problems. How about you?

P.S. I have a set of SS Gibson shorties ready to install. Sure hope mine go easier. Will post when I do.

Here's a link to the header page (I hope) This is 2000 5.3L truck. Looks like only the 2wd air injected Gibson headers are on sale.

I can run 87 tuning and the GMS with out any problems but I've found the best set up is to run NO HPP tuning at all with the GMS. I only use the raised shift points and the firm shift setting with the GMS. I read an article in a Chevy mag, the were hopping up an LS1 Camaro and did the usual, exhaust, intake, computer and they did a GMS too. They dynoed the car after every install which was good, each made power. When they were all done they did one more test, they took out the HPP tuning and only used the raised shift points. The Camaro made the most power that way, I guess the GMS tuning makes more power than the HPP tuning. Not sure about that but my truck runs the best this way.

I am concidering sell my PPIII and buying LS1Edit anyway and it can do all that stuff and a lot more. Here is what they said: "LS1-Edit does include all the features of the HPPIII, and a lot more tuning ability. You can keep the Granatelli MAF, and tune for it, But
you don't really need a larger MAF till you go with a Blower. The stock MAF will support 450 HP in a 427, so you shouldn't be exceeding its limits."
