My current ride is an '03 Sierra 1500 2wd with a 4.8. I've got about 145,000 miles on it, and it seems to be in decent shape. But I'm wondering why it's running 80 lb.s of oil pressure. Is this common? Thanks in advance for any help.

could be a couple things. could be its actually running 80 psi oil pressure, or your stepper motor in your gauge is out, or the oil pressure sending unit it out.
starting in 03-06 the stepper motors in the gauges go out. its pretty much going to happen unless you have them replaced. if you haven't had them replaced, thats probably where your problem is.

Yeah, I was thinking about that, but I don't happen to have one handy. I'm more familiar with the Gen 1 small blocks and the Mark IV big blocks, where do I look for a place to tap into to get a read on the oil pressure?

on my 04 the pressure would max out as soon as i set the key to the start position.
it was the oil pressure sensor. switched it out for a new one and everything is back to normal now.

WOW! You guys are great for helping a guy out! It stays at 80 whether at a light, in drive, idling, or when at speed.
And before IMI4tth3w mentioned the stepper motor I was thinking sensor as well. I had one go out on a '91 Camaro w/ a 305, and I think the one on my '88 Vette is leaking as well.
