It is legal to swap engines in Ca, it is very easy to legally swap a motor into a car if it was an option on that car or in its class. As long as it meets this requirement and it is out of a car that is newer or the same year. Basically a 6.0 swap would be legal in a 1500 because its available in the SS and escalades, but an 8.1 wouldnt be legal in this way. There are still ways to get it to be legal if it doesnt meet the above requirements, but its a lot harder.

Also you could get a big HP motor to pass the sniffer test, it would just have to be a low compression FI motor. If it has a relatively mild cam and close to stock compression, it will probably pass. Then just make the HP with a lot of boost via turbo or supercharger

Like I said before, this is all still getting planned, so am I saying this thing's going to have 800rwhp and I have a dyno sheet to prove it? No. Do I already know every part we're going to replace and change on this thing, and already start ordering truckloads? No.

We started with the idea that Chevy has nothing to compete with the SRT-10 or the Lightning, and this could be the answer all those Chevy guys out there are looking for.

All I wanted to know is what kind of interest there would be. And like I've read all over this forum "build it and they will come" So thank you, my question is answered.

As far as all the "Naysayers" I appreciate the concerns about making this thing work. I'm almost positive we're going to have to change different parts of our plan many many many many times to make this thing work, but that is what we are planning on doing.

Thank you all again for all the feedback.
Even if you build just one or two, and never get them past smog... you'll have my respect.

Is that new? Because I could have sworn I remember peolpe saying you could change the engine with a newer model. I was hoping to slap in a newer 6.0 SOMEday ....

if the 6.0 wasn't optional in your truck, it wouldn't be emissions legal. on the other hand, if you can get it to pass the emissions of your original gen III small block, then you just don't tell them what it is when you bring it in.

ok but seriously, the idea is good, which is probably why Chapman/Joe Gibbs went for it....and I know youre thinking bigger than that but please.....800hp? (I dont even think Parish makes that kinda power - at least in the past) And bringing GM into this -

Maybe a more realistic goal like 500-600 - this would be more than enough to be a "L/SRT" killer, especially if it was 4wd+Lightweight (RCSB)

Not knocking the idea, but just busting out with "800hp Sport Truck" is just..... [edited for content]

Well, thank you guys for all the support. We're going to be talking to the kind folks at GM a lot within the next couple of days for the parts and to try and square everything away. We have a strong plan figured out already, and we have room to change our setup as needed. Again, thanks for the interest and support.
