Default 95 Chev Silverado performance?

Hello there! First off, excellent site here, what a great resource! I'm a little new to the scene, I guess you could say, and I have a simple question for anyone. I recently purchased a 95 Silverado with the 5.7 v8 and I'm interested in what I can do as far as some inexpensive performance mods. I'm not looking for anything too extreme, as it is my daily driver, but if anyone has any input it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

well this is a LSX site. but I will help you ou with what I can. ok first the tpi in your truck sucks. but it has potential. seriously one of the best mods you can do is swap over to a vortec heads and intake which aren't very expensive at all. that's the difference between the 95 350 and the 96-98 350 and it will make a nice jump. also a cam. the smaller stuff will be like a cold air induction which will show minimal gains, a tuner or chip, shift kit. the thing is you can do all these little things but it's still not going very far due to the way the engine is built you have to get inside of it before you can make any good leaps in performance.

i'd start off by looking into a good cat back exhaust like a dynomax or something of the type. the next item to look into would be a chip from someone like pcmforless. once you've gotten those two mods out of the way i'd look into a cam. the heads on a tbi are terrible, but will handle a bit more flow from a bigger cam. i'd recomend the comp cams X4250H. along the way you may also want to look for an L35 torque converter and put in a shift kit with servo change at the same time.

Catback, headers, chip, kn filter, doesnt hypertech make a bowl type thing that goes under the air filter to increase air intake? There is something out there though, and I heard it works well. I just read a recent article in a mag. were they got 255 rwhp out of a 305 tbi with vortec heads and a cam. Then get rid of that intake and get a edelbrock electronic fuel injection system replacement, it rocks! They arent good horsepower motors but they make some torque. If you dont want to replace the cam get some higher ratio rocker arms.

I used to have a '91 5.7 silverado. Check out tbichips.com.
I had their stage 2 chip and it made a noticable difference. I think they sell them for around $70, very good deal. They also have some good information on the site.
