Default '98 Chevy 5.7L (C2500 HD)

So, I'm pulling an 8000# fifth wheel with this truck. What are some good ways to increase power? The engine is bone stock.

Thanks.

I had a 97 C2500 with the 5.7 and 4L80E and liked it pulled my 7000# tractor just fine. Just got bad milage!

If you have 4.10's gears you should be OK if not upgrade to 4.10 or 4.30. For the most part I would get a tune, cold air kit, heavy trans cooler/oil cooler, And Long tubes. But the stock exhaust it big on the heavy dutys anyway mine had like 2.5 inch into 2.75 tail pipe IICR. wolud hur to upgrade it as well.

I put a TB spacer on it and it actually helped as well!

Thanks for the responses.

The rear has 3.73s. I do just fine on the flats, but I'm in Washington State and we have one or two hills (read 'mountains') around here.

It is the heavy duty, so it has a trans cooler.

I was already thinking big dual exhaust and maybe a 180* (160*?) t-stat. Is the cold-air kit effective on this engine?

I was meaning a bigger one than the stock tow package one.

A exhaust will help but like I said the stock HD exaust is big already so don't expect much gains there. Get a tune, cold air kit, and TB spacer.

I would swap in 4.56 gears that would make a differance on the hills and wouldn't cost much!
