You are correct Lingenfelter does recommend these springs with .580 lift or below. I know that 1 or 2 guys on this forum are running the TR220 with LS9 springs just fine. I cannot remember the usernames.
*EDIT* I know that andrew383 runs LS9 springs on his comp 216/220 low lift cam.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
haha yeah spring is not upside down... look closer in some of the pics, the top “beehive“ part is broken off an was pushed down into the larger dia. middle part of the spring...
When I first saw it at a glance I thought the keepers failed and lost the retainer or something... but definitely not the case.
And yeah, it definitely shouldn't have been the cams fault. I ALWAYS let my vehicles warm up properly before driving too, even in DD mode.
Thanks for recommends on springs, but I am moving on from this cam.
I do not yet know the extent of the internal damage. As you can see the valve is still there...
But regardless, I've got an 05 LQ9 I am refreshing right now on the stand and putting a custom BEI lsl lobe cam in, with PAC1518's. PAC is about a half hour from me down Telegraph and indeed great customer support. Was consdering PSI1511ml springs too, but my new cam has like .61x lift.
Should have this 5.3 out in the next couple of weeks and after I get the 6.0 in and all buttoned up I will tear into it on the stand.
Hopefully I can get through to someone helpful at Comp... maybe send my springs in as well and see where it leads me.
When you sent yours in did you need to have your original receipt?

Sure thing. Might go out later tonight and mess around with stuff a bit more. Haven't removed the rockers from this side of the head yet. Hoping there isn't any damage to any of the PR's from retainer or locks bouncing around, since I'll be reusing them in the other engine...

PSST... dont recommend anymore parts to people.....
Those springs have a 1.190" coilbind height. Typical heads have a 1.77" installed height. 1.77-1.19= .580", the minimum distance to coil bind genrally accepted is .060". Your recommending he blindly drop in springs that will give him .030" to coilbind (1.77-.551-1.19= .029" distance to coilbind)

You do realize that GM specs these with a near .560 lift cam (ls9) and Lingenfelter as well?

Your not remembering that Comp probably sells 200,000 of those springs a year. A broken spring here or there is a very low percentage, because all spring manufactuers have defects. Its just that no one else sells as many as Comp, so you dont here about them as much. Your idea will have 16 broken springs if the end user isnt very careful, which most people are not........

It really looks like a bad retainer or keeper to me. Even if the spring busted like that there should still be enough pressure to hold the keepers on. Now if the spring fragged halfway down and then it collapsed I could see good retainers and keepers falling off.
