Default ABS recall

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued April 2000

Chevrolet S10/Silverado and GMC Sonoma/Sierra (2000) Anti-lock brakes system motor contains out-of-spec spring clip, which could allow motor bearing to become misaligned; eventually, ABS would be non-functional and DRP system would become inoperative.

So if mine went out, and I had to pay for it becuase my warranty was up, do I get reimbursed? If so, that would be good.

I was under the impression that you don't have to pay for recalls whether you have warranty left or not.

Is it a recall or a TSB? Recalls are free. TSB's are only covered under warranty.

Nevermind, it's a recall. Here it is.

</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif"> Recall 00V055000: ABS Motor Spring Clip Defect

Vehicle Description: Light duty pickup trucks equipped with 4-wheel disc brakes. Some of these vehicles have an Antilock Brake System (ABS) motor containing an out-of-specification spring clip. This clip could allow the motor bearing to become misaligned. If misalignment occurs, eventually the ABS would be non-functional. The base brakes would remain fully functional, but the Dynamic Rear Proportioning (DRP) system, which optimizes front to rear brake balance, would become inoperative.

Dealers will replace the brake pressure module valve assembly.

Owner notification began March 27, 2000.

Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC at 1-800-462-8782. Also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

Ok here is how it works. The recalls are VIN specific. The one listed above is genneral. If you did not recieve a notice (and you are the original owner) it probably does not affect you.

Here is the recalls for 2000: (it may not affect all 2000's)

NHTSA00V404000 001130 Recall 00V404000: Body Pressure Relief Valve Inoperative
NHTSA00V345000 001027 Recall 00V345000: Possible Brake Line Leak
NHTSA00V222000 000808 Recall 00V222000: Brake Booster Vacuum Hose Kinked
NHTSA00V055000 000225 Recall 00V055000: ABS Motor Spring Clip Defect
NHTSA94V016000 940112 Recall 94V016000: Lower Steering Shaft Defect

Call Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC at 1-800-462-8782. Have you VIN # and they can see if you are affected. These are the ones listed in my ALLDATA. For you guys with different year models, call the # with your VIN and ask them to look it up.
