NO get a metal cap. if you put this one back in you will bogg down after shifting into second gear.
I had this happen to mine and I replaced it with a billit piece or an aluminum one, what ever they offer is better than the plastic one
I wouldnt recomend replacing it with another plastic one.
took me forever to figure out that was my problem. they where very hard to see unless you where looking for it.
hope this helps

oh yeah those cracks will allow the trans fluid to blow by. this causes the bogging sensation.
here is a pic of the part i think you are talking about. if so you will need to replace it, with what i spoke of above

man i have looked everywhere on the internet
when i got mine it was through a transmission shop.
you might want to try one tomorrow, or try a chevy dealership parts center.
this is the best i can do right now untill i can call elsewhere.
maybe someone on here could chime in as to where to find one.

Once I pulled the pan off mine during a failed attempt at building my own tranny, I saw mine was cracked too. It was very noticable though. You can get a new one from www.transmissioncenter.net that's where I got mine from.

Mine was the bottom one in that pic 01 Thunder has posted. The top one (one in the case) was already some kid of metal, the bottom one though was not and was cracked.

yeah the one that cracked on me was the one circled.
i just couldnt remember where he got the metal one from.
you know what after studying that pic
Flyers right it is the one on the bottom. i was looking at the pic wrong because that is the base of the accumulator. the top one is the one that goes further up into the trans.
and yes it already had a metal one on top
just replace the other plastic one and that should fix your problem

Doing this you won't have to drop the valve body which is a pain in the ****. The one on the other side of the seperator plate should already be metal.

If your doing this yourself, make sure everything is CLEAN when you put it back together. Little pieces of dirt are horribly bad for transmissions. Dust is almost acceptable in engines, but not on transmissions.
