So I'm trying to get my Y pipe to seal up my collectors. I threw on some 3" accuseals and clamped them down as hard as my little ratchet could get em. Yet I still got little pufts of exhaust coming out. Where should I have the clamp placed for best seal? Should they be 100% over the OD pipe (which is where I have them now) or should I put it so that the middle of the clamp is right over the edge of the OD pipe? Also, would o2 safe RTV helped if I jammed some of that in between the pipes?

 

I'm thinking some of that high temp RTV myself to seal up the same problem.

 

I wouldn't use ANY silicone near the O2 sensors, even slighty downstream. I use Band clamps and wrap a couple of turns of aluminum foil around the slip joint then tighten them down hard.
There is no such thing as "sensor safe" rtv, at 80.00 bucks apiece for O2's it's not worth it. Walker has a new band clamp forgot the name but it's a nice one .

 

How would the RTV even come in contact with the o2 sensor?

 

Hey, thanks a TON for the tip on the aluminum foil! I bought a Torctite 3" band clamp, but wrapped the joint with a couple layers of foil and then torqued down the clamp. Leak gone. Unfortunately, I needed 2 more clamps and NAPA had no more so I had to order them off ebay. The way the Pacesetters work though with the O2 bung, a band clamp will not work on the passenger header So I clamped down the Accuseal as tight as it will go and I don't feel any leak when it's idleing but I don't know if this means it doesn't leak under throttle.

 

That's why they sell it as O2 sensor safe, because it doesn't damage O2 sensors. I've used it with no problems and the O2 still works just fine. I check them once in a while with the wideband. I used the walker clamps when they first came out and they're okay, but there's nothing like welding on flanges and using good gaskets. We took the ORY and welded standard 3" flanges on and no leaks since then.

you just have to notch the band clamp, pretty simple to do with some snips.
