Adding power and mpg to a 2002 suburban.
What kind of bolt ons actually help out with power and mpg on 5.3's? I don't want to do a cam or heads or any internal work and don't need any power adders. Just looking to add a little. Would I benefit from a bigger throttle body or a throttle body spacer. I've got a K&N air filter, how much more could I pick up from switching to a CAI? I know headers will do it, but what kind, shorty or long tubes. Its a 4x4 so I don't know if any long tubes will work. I've got a dyno tuner that'll tune it and EFI live to make any fine adjustments.
Also how much should I pick up from just a dyno tune being stock? Any?

long tubes will definitely help out, and there are LTs specifically made for 4x4 versions, or they should already fit regardless. LTs will pick up power, prolly get you an extra mpg or two, and make your truck sound nicer
Also, efans will be a plus, less load on your engine, that'll free up quite a few ponies and mpgs
And yes, a tune will help even on a bone stock motor, more power, more mpg
as far as the CAI, your best bet would be cutting off the bottom of your stock box, and using PVC as an intake tube after installing efans...

What fans are you guys using? I've got an extra set of FLX-440 fans sitting around. They flow 2500 cfm, would these work? What headers do you guys recommend? I've used pacesetter long tube's on my 96 camaro before and they fit alright and tucked up nicely. Gears will wake it up a bit, but with the amount of highway driving I do, I'd be losing MPG.

CAI hurts your MPG and power in the summer....have studied it on my own truck and have found the intake temp is higher with most CAI kits.
Adding power can increase MPG but there is a fine line, with gears if you do much highway driving it will make you use more gas on the highway.
I have efans on all 3 of my trucks, any MPH gain is too small to even notice.
Your best option is too just get a good tune.

^^ this... along with a set of LT headers & a good tune (one that tunes part-throttle & not just WOT) will be your best bet. shorties on LS engines gain so little that they ain't worth it unless you live in CA. same with TB spacers - regardless of whether or not you live in CA.

I saw a 1.5-2 mpg increase when I did e-fans on my truck... It might not make that much difference on an already modded truck but for my basically stock truck I was happy with the MPG increase and throttle response I gained from the e-fans
