Default Advice on cutting off exhaust tips

Im looking to get a roll pan and wondering if its a bad idea to cut off my tips, right now i have them sticking straight out the back, looks ugly anyway, i am waiting for headers to get magnaflows and dump them but for now how bad would it be under my truck if i cut them straight off not facing them down, and where should i cut them if i decide to do it...

a pic of the tips

you could cut them after they turn down after the axle, or is it just one of them that turns down since you have duals?

Like said above, you can cut them just after the axle where they turndown. I had to cut mine before the axle and didn't have a turndown so they were straight like you are talking about, it didn't change much once I put turndowns on it. Either way will be fine though.

You can weld on some turndowns right behind the rollpan. If you don't have access to a welder you couls even do band clamps. They don't need to be chrome or stainless, or even mandrel bent at that point. If they're hidden underneath you won't have to worry about how they look.

Right, not much change in sound. I only ran mine a few weeks and didn't notice any soot buildup if that is what you are concerned about.

The turndowns I ended up using were just regular steel tips that they sell at most part stores. I think they are made to be welded on, but mine were such a tight fit that after I slide them on, I just put a screw through the tip and tailpipe to hold it on. Probable been on about a year and they haven't loosened up at all.

I saw a silvy with a rollpan today, had two rectangular tips exiting through it. Looked very clean, i like that.

Although tips like that are fairly expensive if you even want to consider something like that. However, ecklers.com sells OEM 1971-72 corvette tips. They're rectangular and look just like the $150+ things. Only problem is they have a 2" inlet and they're stainless so they tend to oxidize and collect dirt.

turndowns would be the easier path for sure.

If you don't mind a little drone just cut off all of the pipe after the mufflers and leave them wide open, my Aerochamber is like that now and it sounds great.
