Aftermarket Performance
I have massive questions about performance parts. I'm done harvesting and I have a little money and it's going to the truck, so I'm wondering what to spend it on .
1. Air intake: I'm thinking Volant but not sure what to go with.
2. Mass Airflow Sensor: Granatelli, only people who make them, right?
3. Throttle Body: BBK 80mm, not sure of any others.
4. Cam: I want something that sounds good and has kind of a rough Idle but obiously can still pass SMOG (California) and make power.
5. Headers: Completely clueless (Long, Short, Equal length, brand?)
6. Cats: Clueless here to. Remove? Aftermarket?
7. I'm having a custom made true dual 3-inch exhaust with X-Pipe to incorperate the headers and cats. What type of mufflers? I want power and a sweet sound I want people to hear and fear me (LOUD).
-Few months down the road-
8. Torque Converter: Clueless.
9. Supercharger: Whipple or Radix. Whipple will make 415 HP @ 5400 and 491 TQ @ 3100 (Numbers from www.superchargersonline.com) 7 PSI at the touch of the throttle. Radix will make a little over 400 HP and TQ (stock truck in Truckin' Mag) watercooled boost.
10. Heads: I'm thinking ported and polished 6.0 heads. (There was a thread about 6.0 heads but I can't find it now.)
Keep in mind this is a lifted truck. I rarely all out race. I never 4X4 with this truck I have an older truck and a Chevy powered Landcruiser to do that. I usually just cruise with my freinds and drive aggressivly . I'd like to know HP and TQ gains for individual parts (If possible) and maybe a guess about Total HP and TQ gains. Sorry for being so long.
Thanks,
Pete

to answer some of your questions and not in not specific order:
i would go with UPD for the intake.
FLP or ASM headers
yank 3000 tq converter
ASP under drive pulley
Radix - talk to blownchevy about that.
212/212 cam - not my best area but seems to be good for keeping low end torque
LS1EDIT for programming
oh yea, sell your hppIII.
i would leave the cats alone.
leave the stock mass air sensor in there and find someone to port and polish your TB. or if someone has shaners website, he'll do it for you. for a fee of course.
all of this stuff will end up costing you a pretty penny. look this way ------> at all the sponsors that sale this stuff for the prices.
hope this helps in what you were looking for.

in the order they were asked:
1. Volant...good choice
2. Use the Stock MAF....it's MUCH easier to tune with
3. TB...BBK...good choice
4. NO aftermarket cam will legally pass CA smog (no CARB #)...try a 216/216 .535/.535 113lsa it will give you a slightly rough idle and you will still have decent low-end torque
5. ASM's or TOGS are a good header choice
6. Catalytic converters...keep 'em if you ever want to pass visual smog checks (they arent THAT much of a restriction anyway)
7. Magnaflow Race Bullets...yep, they're LOUD
8. Yank 2400 converter...you can still tow at full capacity
9. RADIX RADIX RADIX !!!!!
10. Absolute Speed Stage 1.5X heads !!
with that combo you should put around 450ish hp to the ground (bigger tires will affect dyno numbers dramatically)

you might want to try these though.....smaller pipe choices and still an agressive sound

Hey Pete...
1. All air intakes do about the same thing power wise...one will gain maybe 4-6rwhp over another. Not much at all.
2. GMS MAF are good for about 10rwhp. If you do get one, get it with the stock calibration. But money seems to be better spent elsewhere.
3. Once again $400 and lose power isn't cool. A few people on this board and another one I am on have lost power due to it. A ported stocker is ~$125 from Shaner and the intake hole in the manifold is ~75mm and same with the blade on the TB.
4. Up to 220/220 will pass smog. I get a dual pattern like a 214/220; .540" lift, 112LSA for a bit better sound at idle. May as well toss on some full roller rockers at the same time.
5. Long tubes make the most power. I like The Other Guys as their warranty kicksass. Thorley makes a set now and the Arizona Speed and Marine ones are popular also.
6. Stock cats flow pretty well. I'd keep them or if you run a custom exhuast get some Carsound high flow ones.
7. Also...if you are 100% sure you are going to toss on a blower then do 3" duals...other wise 2.5" duals flow plenty.
8. The Yank converters seem to be the most popular. The Truck Thruster 3000 (modified Trailblazer 'verter) is the ****. Full towing capacity and higher STR. My choice.
9. Radix for sure. Better setup until Whipple releases and intercooler and gets rid of their aux injectors.
10. Ported 6.0 heads are great. Absolute Speed is where I'd go for head work.
11. DITCH the 3.42:1 gears for at least a 4.10:1. Looks like you have ~35" tire so I'd consider a 4.56:1 swap. That will make the truck perform better than stock.
12. Your 4L60E is going to explode. Get ready to rebuild it.
13. Ebay your HPP3 and get a custom tune from Allen on ls1truck.com OR the expensive Westers, etc.

Thanks for the replies. I have a good friend at the smog station and I should be able to get away with a bit but not very far over the limits . Keep the suggestions coming there very much appriciated .
