What does everyone use for oil? I have been running Mobil-one synthetic for a while. I started a few years back on my 2000 silverado with a 5.3L, and it really seems to help in the cold weather temps as far as quelling lifter and valve train noise when starting. You know the sound I speak of. All the trucks I have had this sound at start up, especially when cold. 1993-4.3 V6,1996-5.7L,1998-5.7L,2000-5.3L, and my current and quietest to date engine 2002-5.3L.
is it true or a crock of crap that once you go synthetic you cannot go back to standard oil? I always wait a few thousand miles for proper break in, if that is even true.
Anyone have an experience to talk about?

I don't see why you couldn't go back to dino oil, I also don't see why you'd want to, unless its starting to get expensive. Mobil one is one of the best, and probably is the best that you can get at the local parts store.

I'm running Mobile 1 right now but I'm gonna switch the truck over to Amsoil on the next change. BTW here is a great website if you are interested in oil talk.

how many miles do you have on your truck. i have read many places that it is bad to switch back to dino oil after about 100,000 miles.

I don't think theirs much of an issue going from mineral to synthetic or vise versa, how does the engine care? its like people with octane boost in a little bottle you think thats gonna make a difference to 20+ gallons of gas???? Engine oil doesn't really do much besides lubricate, transmission fluid does 10 times more work then engine oil.
I personally use AMSoil and will continue to use it or try redline possibly. But the general public belive that since their vehicle is a 2003 it doesn't need to have the oil changed as often, thats a load of crap. I see people everyday having their first oil change at 9 or 10 thousand miles.... With the heavier use of EGR for some engines it has a adverse affect on oil.

I have read all the specs on Amsoil. It seems all the comparos between Amsoil and the other products only a few of the higher end synthetics even come close. Does Amsoil really last as long in an engine as they claim. That is the only thing I was skeptical of when I say the recommended change intervals. I agree that alot of people seem to think a new vehicle is immune to engine wear, spark plug replacement and alike. The people who want you to beleive all those types of things are the dishonest mechanics who will be taking your money after you spin a bearing or fry a piston.

I run synthetic, -and- change every 3000 miles. What about this Amsoil, is it better than Mobil 1 and if it is where do you buy it? (Haven't ever seen it for sale)

I run dino 10w30 in my stuff and change it ever 5000 miles.I dont fall into the 3000 mile oil company profits myth.I have run several vehicles past 200,000 miles without problems.My beater 95 GMC safari has 280,000 on it,uses about 4 ounces between changes.I know this is a unpopular opinion but have yet to see that the shorter intervals actually help anything,other than the owners psyche.
