Default air intake questions

whats goin on everyone had a few quick questions for ya. ive got a cammed and bolt on 4.8 silverado. i noticed with my CAI theres a bit of a problem now, when the truck just had bolt ons the filter never had an issue, ever since ive noticed it sucking itself together and now is pretty much crumbled. figured id get some opinions on wether i need to go up intake tube diameter size or if its since its just a cheap(spectre) filter. ive been wanting to lengthen the tube and run it down to the opening right next to my tow hooks but figured id get some opinions here before i touched anything. if anybodys got any input or advice feel free to let me know

thanks

T.J.

Longer tubing will rob a little power due to friction losses in the tube. But if you aren't getting enough cold air as is it might be worth it.
The filter crumpling is because the filter itself can't flow enough air not the tubing, maybe the filter was too dirty or maybe it just can't keep up. If you get a more free flowing filter and keep it clean you shouldn't have any problems with the tubing you already have.

another reason i thought about moving it lower is just because of how bad this truck gets heat soak. it literally feels like i lost 100 horse between 60 degrees and 80, as for the filter its a 6 or 7in diameter and about 10" long, filter was always cleaned every few months and was never over oiled. mabey ill just try buying a higher quality filter

Maybe use some 4" tubing and take it to the passenger side and 45 it down?
The longer you make it the worse, but then again the cooler the air the better.. Try something and let us know how it works

thats what im thinking, but just as how you said ive heard its worse, then again with how bad i get heat soak it may be beneficial. i just dont know where i would place the maf if i did extend this down, thats my only question. i plan on going with a card style ls7 maf later on but not at this minute, still need to get this turd back on the road

Just use a IAT sensor from a Fbody or S10.. they are in every junkyard.
