Default Airbox modifications

I recently installed a smoked/clear UPD intake and was looking at the factory airbox air inlet .. and was wondering if cutting holes on the sides or bottom would improve the amount of air coming in? I read somewhere where someone cut a 4 inch hole on the bottom of the airbox for the ram are tube, and actually dynoed lower than the factory air inlet.

So would cutting the airbox for increased airflow and power work?, or would it somehow just create turbulence and reduce power?

Or is it so minimalistic it wouldnt really matter?

I cut the bottom of mine out. I have not dynoed it since but it "feels" better. Plus it is getting the cooler air from the bigger hole. I was told that there were gains of 5-6 rwhp on the Radix charged truck at magnacharger.

Who knows......

I've cut a 4" hole in the bottom of my air box and ran 4" pipe to a scoop under my bumper. On the top I'm using a UPD lid.I want to take the base plate out and build a fibreglass box with a larger air volume with a bigger airfilter that connects directly to my under the bumper scoop.I want to position the outlet to point the Mass air sensor straight towards the throttlebody.

would cutting the air box like above, be better than running the tube to the airdam?

looks like it would get more air.

isn't the wrong side of that box cut out? if your going to hack up your box cut out the part that points toward the front of the truck. then when you are at the track you can do the headlight pull trick and it will have the ram air effect right into the box.

Correct, that is the wrong side of the box that was cut off. I got this pic from SShotrods.com and for some reason he cut cut two holes on the air box. I only cut the one on front like this pic shows.

Here are the rest of the pics.
