I did a search and could not find much on this topic. Has anybody ever pulled apart there alternator? If so, who has some pointers for me? I imagine some people won't even try touching it?

Which alternator is it? All I've really messed with is the old Delco's like the square body trucks had. On those all it really takes is a volt meter to ohm things out and a soldering iron to replace the brushes. The bearings and all of the electronics are servicable too on that style alternator. On these later ones I really don't know. For 125 bucks I walked out of oreillys with a Reman CS144 big case alternator thats 140 amps and put it directly in place of my stock little CS130. I took the core back in the box no questions asked. I just couldn't see it being worth messing with an almost 200,000 mile alternator. Besides if you keep the receipt and it goes out, just take it back and get another one.
