Roger that...I kinda mis-interpreted the question. (FWIW I prefer aluminum heads for weight reduction and heat dissapation)

I have: 706 cast heads flow better. But dont know which one is which.
The sand cast heads were only aluminum and you can tell them apart from non-sand cast heads by the big triangles that are visible near the exhaust ports.

I kinda thought the iron LQ4 head were not the same as the aluminum #317 models. I do know for sure the #317 are carbon copies of the LS6 heads ( D-shape exhaust ports the primary improvement ) but with larger combustion chambers ( 72cc vs 64cc ). I also read some literature that says don't bother with the iron heads. I will check my car rags later for more....

Well that is good to know, But I though that the cast iron heads were also 72cc chamber.

That is correct on the chamber sizing ( both equal ). Did not get to my archives, will do so this PM tho.
