much easier to install. but that is completely opinion based. i would kill for a front mount but then you are having to buy turbo logs and a few other parts as well. my dyno tuner has a mid mount on is TBSS and its really sweet.

Here is my 4x4

stock LS1 w/bolt-ons built 60E with 3600 stall, I daily drive this truck. The great thing about a fast truck is that if you lose a race, no one is surprised, but when u beat that ricer or mustang next to you everyone is laughing their asses off

Doesn't look like anyone else has made mention yet, but the first thing that comes to my mind is that I would hesitate personally on investing a lot of money in modifications to a 170,000 mile motor. Instead I'd probably be looking in the classifieds for new or low mileage motors (short or long block) to swap out. Even might already have a cam in it and could likely be enough to satisfy what you're looking for to start with.

If it were me with a 170k 5.3. I would just throw a stock 01-07 6.0 pull out and some headers in there. LQ4's have gotten pretty cheap now that gen 4s are around. All of your accessories and transmission will bolt up to it. Especially since you don't want to switch gears. When thats not enough hp for you, then go ahead and start adding more hp.

170k is nothing on these motors. Replace cam timing chain lifters trunion upgrade oilpump hardened pushrods valve springs and clean up the heads. Bam good for another 200k. Basically a good cam swap and he is good.

4x4 definitely robs you big in a setup with low power but is the way to go imo for something with 500+ hp on street. I would jump straight to a 6.0L and run around a 220@.050 cam with good converter, and long tubes. That combo will run 12's if done correctly. I wouldn't bother with a worn out 5.3L in the 4x4. You will likely have lifter probs adding a cam with those miles + the better heads and tq of the 6.0L will make all the difference.

This. 4x4 launches on the street hurt a lot of people's feelings.

A used 6.0 for a good price would be a nice way to go

Yeah Ive been thinking alot about a 6.0.

Ive had a beat to hell b2300 for the last 5 years, just retired it when I bought this. I might make this a toy and keep the 23mpg mazda for driving to the job site. Im happy with how clean this thing is for the miles, it looks like a >50k truck. I gave up on trying to find one for 3000-4000 Everyone I looked at was held together by rust, backyard body work, and tattered interiors.

Im def interested in the 6.0 swap. Wont it fry my stock tranny in a hurry tho? I wouldnt go too crazy probably just a cam and the supporting drivetrain mods. Think I could find one in the classifieds here?

Can someone fill me in on the efans? I searched for it I figured there would be a sticky due to the popularity of it.

and I may get laughed at for this as well but Id like to drop it. I dont even want the capability of taking it in the mud I have no self control the 4x4 should be enough to keep me from getting stuck even if sitting lower.

I read I will need 2500hd keys, can anyone else fill me in or give me a link or parts list? Id like to go like 4/6 if possible
