you would need to replace the valvesprings to ls6 valvesprings at a minimum, idle will also need to be raised. rockers dont need to be changed and it would probably be better to get a set of comp 918s and some titanium retainers to take full advantage of the powerband of that cam.

a torque converter and lower ratio gears would also be a great help as this cam will probably take alot away from your low end (below 3000).

i just got done putting a 218/219 in my 4.8L. this cam is quite a bit bigger than a 212/218 so idle will def be better but not sure how much. idle was REALLY lopey at 650 tho (to the point it probably wasnt even driveable), never tried it at stock (550). havent driven around in it yet since i have been gone all weekend but should later today

Is the idle only adjustable through LS1 Edit or dealer programming? But you're not sure that the idle will need adjusting with the use of the 212/218 right?
The seller of the cam states that it is good for low-end to midrange. Maybe he doesn't know what he's talkin about. I'm looking for a low-end to midrange cam. Could you point me in a direction as far as specs?
What about the Z06 cam? It looks nice on the pocket book. How might that work in the 4.8?
Sorry about all the questions. I desperately want to learn about cams and how to pick the right one.
Much thanks and happy <img border="0" alt="[chug]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_chug.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[driving]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_driving3.gif" />

after driving mine around, you wont need to change the idle with a 212/218 if you dont want to. also, some cars you can change the idle on the throttle body with a black twist ***.

as for the 212/218 being a low-mid range cam thats not true. thats true on a 5.7L but not with a 4.8. A good low-midrange cam on a 4.8L would be something like the 206/212 that comp cams sales.

Hey OFS the specs you are looking for are at www.compcams.com Click on the search button, and type in 54-412-11. That is the part# for the cam you are talking about. That is also the cam I currently have in my truck. I'm not sure how different it would react in a 4.8 vs. a 6.0, but I like it in my truck. I drove around without tuning it for quite a while, and had no real issues with it other than it running really rich. How soon are you looking to get that cam? I might be pulling mine out if I can get a hold of a 54-414-11. I'd sell it dirt cheap if I do get the other one. It has about 8000 miles on it. LMK

Default Another Cam ?

I have the opportunity to buy a Comp Cam 212-218 522/529 114
How would this cam react in my 4.8 with the following mods...

Flowmaster dual outlet 40 series
Gibson Headers
Homemade Intake
TB Spacer
TB Bypass
NGK TR55

Would I need to replace springs, pushrods, rockers, tuning?

Really slow truck.... That 206/212 Comp Cam.....is that part #54-408-11?

Ajax...I'm currently bidding on the 212/218 cam on Ebay with 7 hours to go. I have the high bid right now. How dirt cheap you thinkin? It looks like I'll get this one pretty darn cheap if nobody puts in a bid in the next few hours. But we all know thats when everyone puts in their bids. <img border="0" alt="[punch]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_punch.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> If I don't get it I'll consider your offer.

That's the cam that I've purchased for my truck. I really wanna get it put in sometime soon, but I've been too busy moving this week! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> I decided to pony up the cash for the TR pushrods and Comp 918's just as an added precaution--they were less than $300 shipped from Thunder Racing. Well worth the investment IMO! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Best of luck, and I think that the 212/218 cam is a great choice for the 4.8!

Ajax...what did that 212/218 do to your 6.0? Did you get better low, midrange, or top end?

With a low-end cam, does it make it that much more important to have a stall or will having one hurt performance?
