Default Another cam question

OK, so heres the question, its a quick one. I have an lq9 out of a 2002, drive by cable type engine. The engine has a 4l80 trans. I want a little more power out of it, so I'm trying to figure out something on a budget. I found a zo6 cam/springs/pushrods for 200 bucks and they have 18k miles on the whole thing. Heres the question, will it make that much of a power boost? If not is there a recommended cam that I can pick up that will work with everything else being stock? This is a daily driver, and its moving a 3400 lb car, its being swapped in next weekend, so I'm just trying to get things together. Somebody the zo6 cam won't work because of sodium filled valves and mine aren't. Any help ya'll could give would be greatly appreciated. Like i said this is a daily driver, but will be used as a weekend strip toy as well.

Thanks guys

Otis

I'm getting the cam/springs/pushrods out of an 04 zo6. Is there anything else I need to buy for the lq9 motor to make this work.

Thanks guys

you should have done some more research before you got that cam, thats a very tame cam for a 6.0.

x2...Should have looked around some more and seen what all of the DD guy's with 6.0's are running. I know that Klug's SS daily drives his 6.0 and he's runnin a 224/230 cam with near .600 lift. A Z06 cam in a 6.0 well you may be a little dissappointed

Thank you guys for the input. The only reason I got the cam was it was a build on a budget. If its not worth it to put it in, I'm not going to worry about it.

Second question, if I do put the cam in, will I need new lifters? I've got the cam/pushrods/springs, so do I need lifters or anything else.

no need for new lifters, may want to replace the valve seals while youre in there. change the front main seal (on the timing cover) too or else it will most likely leak.

You can buy a cam kit for $50 from tsp that has everything you need for the swap. Front main seal, water pump gaskets, crankshaft seal, GM crank bolt

I believe that you'll need longer pushrods for that cam since it has a smaller base circle, and the difference is made up with longer valves...but I'm not 100% sure.

You are correct on how GM made up for the smaller base circle by using longer valves on the LS6.

He could use the stock push rods it would just act like a smaller cam.
