Question ANSWER ME THIS about the oil pan bolts

Why is there a bolt, hole missing in the left side of the pan, right in front of the filter. There looks to be a spot made in the pan where a bolt could go to fasten it to the block, but just a smooth spot. Thats where mine was leaking at. Is there a reason as to why it isn't a bolt there..
Thanks

John

I would NOT for any reason drill and tap that. I would say try and re-torque ur oil pan or replace the gasket. Mine started leaking a lil at like 9k and I tightened them and no leak since.

I just put a new one in there... If it does leak again, I poss will drill and tap it, as there is nothing there, other then a steel ear..

To be honest, i usually would be joking with the idea of drilling and tapping, but remembering we are also beyond the means of gasket replacement and retorquing bolts not solving the problem, which probably it will. I would guess somehow there is a defect in the pan, warpage, pourous, or whatever. Possibly drilling and tapping a hole, of course the provisions being ironically in the location of the leak might remedy the situation. This is easily a far cheaper and harmless cry in the right direction other than buying a new oil pan! Wouldn't you agree?!
