Any one know about swapping a 3.8 into a 85 blazer
I have an 85 4x4 s10 blazer that has a blown 2.8 motor.
I found a 3.8 with tranny out of a 98 comaro for a real good price.
I want to know can i swap this into it keeping the fuel injection (i get harnesses and computer) and keeping it 4x4
Im worried about hooking up the transfer case and output shafts and stuff?
any one know the compatibility of these.
I think the motor mounts are similar to the 4.3 so that shoulndbe a problem.

This is probably not the best board for your question being this is not a 99+ based truck AND not a motor available in this platform. Good luck. Maybe try s-10 boards ... i would think you would be better off going V8 or 4.3 for ease of swaping...

It would most likely be relatively easy, but i would try to get a 4.3. They could be found cheaper and will be easier to swap. Or you could swap a 5.3 motor in there that would be sweet.
you shouldnt have any trans problems, you will have to use the trans that is in the truck, and it will bolt up, the only concern would be motor mounts, but that shouldnt be hard

Funny you mention this... I almost did the same thing. I had an '86 4x4 blazer, and a 3.8 out of an old Cutlass I believe it was. I don't think it's going to work too easy that's for sure. The 3.8 won't bolt up to the tranny that's in the truck (if I remember correctly), so you'd have to swap the tranny as well, and then you get into issue with the transfer case and everything. I wouldn't recommend it, but if you do... I wish you luck.

Well the 2.8 is a 60* and the 3.8 is a 90*
the belhousing can be swapped, not a problem.
the 4.3 is a 90* also, i beleve they take the same motor mounts, diffent from the 2.8
The 3.8 trans can fit (i think), but im not sure on the transfer case, to keep my 4x4.
I cant find any good running 4.3s but i found a 3.8 with trans and harness etc, for $500 with only 50k miles.
Plus it has over 200 hp, im not sure what the 4.3 has.

see if you can find an lt1 to swap in there.
I hear they are relatively easy to swap in, and no major mounting work needs to be done.
