Default Any positives to just gutting the cats?

Ok so I cant afford these headers now that I want. What if I just take the cats off, replace them with pipe and run into a dual in single out Magnaflow with a turn down? Will there be any benefits? I can get that done for $50 here and I already have the Magnaflow and turndown.

I would say that would be a positive. I was gonna do it before I decided to just go ahead and get my headers. It is removing some restriction in the system.

Use some steel rod from your local hardware store and bang'em out with a hammer It's free, you'll gain a few tenths and the exhaust will have a little more rumble. here's a link to a how to from SSS.com

Better get a tune to turn off the rear oxygen sensors or get simulators.

You'll gain 3 hp, wont even notice it and pump out terrible pollutants. Not even worth your time.

I dont care what anyone here *thinks* they feel, they dont actually feel 3hp. It's 3hp in a +5000lb truck. It's less than 1% power gain in most cases.

FWIW, I'm getting cats welded into my Y pipe (I have long tubes).

This isn't 1978; cats aren't going to backup your motor.

good luck with that, there's not a whole lot of room for them there. Epically if you're going to put flanges on the headers.

The Cats are restrictive. And I just deleted my cats, and you WILL feel a noticable diffrence above the 3000 rpm power band (contrary to popular statments). But, you'll probably notice a loss on the low rpm side (torque). But just gutting the converters does cause a wee bit of turbulance in the system and I just ain't a fan of the shitty sound that it produces. It will sound much better just taking them off and using pipe.
