I just recently intalled a LSD Auburn (High Performance Series) diff. I was told by the mechanic he used synthetic lubricant. Yet, in the instruction, it clearly states to use nonsynthetic oil. Will using synthetic oil damage my unit? What kind of lubricant are you all using with this type of diff using?

I have an Auburn, but I honestly don't know about the fluid. I am fixing to change it though and go back with synthetic. Now you got me second guessing that. If the instructions say non synthetic, I would make them change it at his cost.

I have bought 5 different Auburns in the last 8 years for various vehicles-both ford and GM. I always use the Mobil 1 synthetic gear lube. It will pop and clunk while turning-especially when the road is wet-unless you add a bottle of friction modifier. I have never had any probs with the Auburn with synthetic fluid. Just my .02

I had an Auburn Pro series diff in my old 2000 S10. My buddy worked at the local Chevy dealer and we used the lift in his bay to install it. He gave me GM synthetic gear lube. It seemed to work fine, I had the posi in the truck for over 20K miles. When I took it out before I got rid of the truck the carrier bearings were trashed. But, I attribute the bad bearings to wheel hop and nitrous oxide use. Just adding my personal experience with the two items in question.
