Default Anyone have vacuum/braking issues running a cam with a 110-ish LSA?

Does anyone run a cam with a 110LSA? I am wondering if anyone is running a 110LSA cam and if they DID or did NOT have to convert over to hydroboost to daily drive thier truck.......not sure if an LSA that low would give the truck braking issues or not......

I talked to someone the other day that ran a TSP228 cam on a 112 LSA in his 5.3 truck, but I am curious if anyone has used a 110 LSA to shift a larger cam's power band LOWER........

If you want the power band lower get a smaller cam.

LOL....not trying to extend the power band out......just lower in the RPM's......I figure a 228 cam on a 110 LSA would bring the power band down......I figure someone would have to mill thier heads to make the most out of it like 1TRUESS did a long *** time ago....his truck ran solid 12's with that set up.......and it was a stick.....

Like I said, get a smaller cam. You dont need a 228 cam in a 5.3 to make good power or run good times.

True....220/220-ish cams usually have that longer power band with more average TQ......I was just curious if you could run a 110LSA on a larger cam to shift the power band down to where you could use it.....

I have yet to see an ACTUAL dyno sheet of a 228 in a 5.3.....I wonder how much you would give up in the lower RPM's....doesn't seem like it would be that much.....I remember seeing a thread from Texas Speed over on LS1tech comparing that 220 to a 224 or 226 and the 226 didn't seem to give up much in the lower RPM's.....at least from what I remember.....It's CRAZY that I can't even find ONE dyno sheet of a 228/228 cam in a 5.3 but run into guys at the track or see them online running them fairly often.....

Anyone have a dyno sheet of a 228/228 cam in a 5.3?

So your truck doesn't die when jamming on the brakes or have brakes that struggle to stop the truck? Less effective than stock I can see.....but how manageable is it when you have to make a quick stop?

What are the other specs on your cam and what does it idle at man?

6500-ish RPM's......

I figure with a set of milled heads to get about 10:1 it wouldn't need to be spun to 7K........

Yes it will give more TQ @ a lower RPM but it also will have less power off the stop but build faster one its starts getting into its power band. You end up with a narrower powerband but higher peak power, generally speaking.

You can also advance the cam to gain more low end but give up some top end in exchange. Also a good way to achieve the a optimal dynamic compression for your motor.

With all that said a 228r is not the best choice, go with a custom grind preferably with a split duration since its pretty obvious your going N/A or on the bottle.

You need to also understand LSA and duration both effect your overlap "idle quality", just LSA has a greater effect then duration. For every degree you change the LSA it the same effect as changing the duration 2 degrees total over both lobes.

I am going to be running a 270/278 110+4 in one of my trucks, probably will need hydroboost lol
