I've never heard of inspections that involve tapping into your electronics. Around here they just test drive your truck around the block, make sure your lights and horn work and get you on your way in about 10 minutes.

Not in Houston and surrounding areas. They check everything, drive it to test brakes, and plug into your OBDII port. Cost: $39.50

In some of the big cities they tap into your computer and check codes and emissions output. Not sure about Houston though. As long as you get your computer tuned for the new engine I doubt you'll have a problem either way.

As long as you don't have any SES light codes or codes the PCM has stored that is being picked up, you will be fine. You still have to have cats. They do look under the truck for them.
