Anyone run the Z06 cam in their 5.3?
I have been reading up on the different cams and what seems to work in our little 5.3, and seems for the money especially, the '02-04 Z06 cam seems to work REAL well. I have the "Hot to Build High Perfor LS1/LS6 V-8s" and they did a dyno session on the 5.3:
Stock 324 Ft Lbs of Torque @ 4000 and 293 HP @ 5100
Z06 cam 335 Ft Lbs of Torque @ 4700 and 332 HP @ 5800
This was done on a dyno with no alternator or power steering, but with full exhaust, inlcuding stock exhaust manifolds and converters, and stock air filter. Sure it moved the peak torque up in the band (not real good for a heavy truck) but over all, seems to be good cam. AND, looking at all of these $400+ for cams, the $199 for the ZO6 through Summit seems to be a smokin deal. Who has one, or had experience with this cam, and could you comment on it? I am not looking for a race truck (I have a couple other cars for that), I am looking for a little more pep, that is all.

If you're talking about the 204/218 cam with .550 lift, that is an interesting cam. Together with some Z06 springs, and you will almost have the same package as BlownChevy, and he seems to be happy with his setup...

I had one in my Z71 and it was ok. My buddy had the same cam in his 6.0L HD and we wasn't real impressed.
Personally I'd spend the extra $200 and buy a custom cam if your going to go through all the effort of installing one.

We both had the 02'. It's supposedly not as good for our use as the 01' but the difference isn't going to be huge. I think I still have mine. If so $100+shipping and it's yours. LOL

I am running the 02+ cam in my 5.7 and it likes high rpm's and makes good HP. But I think I had rather have something that makes HP in a lower RPM range so I am thinking about a VHP cam.
