Default Installing a TPI on a Vortec.

Hi I know this is an old post but I have just gotten around to doing this. I have been wanting to do this for years but the information was not easy to come by. I stumbled on to HOGs post on GM Performane. I like the way he did most of the wiring but I knew there had to be an easier way. Then I came across Hunny Badger doing a similar type intake with 8 separate injectors and saw how he cut the end off of the injector harness and adding a quick connect end on it that can fit the FAST XFI injector harness. I have now successfully done one TPI swap on my 1998 Chevy 3500 but I changed the whole SERP belt set up back to 95 style so that the TB would clear the ALT and AC. But I still think it could be done easier. Now I have started another TPI swap on a 1997 2 door Tahoe and keeping all the SERP belt pulleys and ALT/AC in stock location from the 97 Vortec. As of today I have made the AC Compressor relocation bracket and was able to use the Vortec thermostat housing and the TPI will fit perfect between the ALT and AC with no problems.

Default Installing a TPI on a Vortec

Well from my perspective, lm not looking for a hot rod with a TPI. I only use a TPI on 4x4s and for towing like my 1 ton truck. There is no other efi intake that I have found that will make 500 torque @2000. And When you drive one of these trucks it put a smile on your face that you just can’t remove. The torque and throttle response is so crazy that you just can’t explain it you just have to drive it. Every one that drives these trucks say OMG I WASN'T EXPECTING THAT. This is my 98 1 ton that pull my company trailer that weighs 11k lbs. it only dyno at 260hp but 460tq at 2000 where the truck spends 90% of its life.

@88ZNX I was under the impression that the TPI lower plate does not align with the Vortech head ports. Was this not an issue for you? Also, what ECU are you using

Sorry took so long to reply, the website locked me out and took a while to reset my password crazy. Skagen Dickies Sales a Tpi Bass intake to fit a TPI onto Vortec heads. I personally have not purchased one, because I preferre Corvette aluminum 113 heads. I fired it up on the stock black box ECM. And it runs amazing. This week I am Converting it over to the 0411 computer. As soon as I get it done I will post how it did.

What sort of mileage are you seeing on that crewcab with the swap?

Hi not really sure because it’s never unhooked from 11k lb Trailer. I just know that it’s much better than the stock Vortec 5.7 and ten times more powerful.

Default Black box to 0411 swap

Hi did the swap this weekend. It fired right up and drove perfectly. I did notice an issue with the transmission not returning to 1st gear when coming to compete stop. I will have to look into this. But over all perfect. And the pin out swap was fairly easy. Me and a friend did it in about 20 minutes.

I'm thinking of doing this exact same swap on my 96. is there anyway I can get you to send me any info on what you did to the harness to make it work?

88ZNX, do you sell your A/C compressor relocation plates? If so, I would be interested in purchasing one. Also, did you have to use a longer serpentine belt to accommodate the relocated compressor? If so, can you share the part # or application of the belt? Thanks.
