Anyone tried running their engine while the tranny was out?

I did it in my '69 Nova...it wasn't pretty. I really thought the engine was going to jump out of the car !!! The stock rubber mounts are designed to hold it in place in the engine bay, NOT take the entire force of the engine twisting without support from the transmission to keep the engine from rocking back and forth.

I did it in my old '79 pickup. Just make sure you support the rear of the oil pan and it should be fine. I used a block and some pieces of 2x4 if memory serves right.

You'll be fine. I do it all the time in other cars. Last time I tried to track down a vibration, I pulled my TC out of my jeep and fired it up. I revved it to about 3 grand with no problems.
