that cam isnt goin to have much low end. you might wanna consider a smaller cam around a 210 to 215
but the 243 heads will help if you mill them down to keep your CR close to stock, or could even get it up around 9.5-10 to really get a lil more power out of it.

Oh yeah nonnie, it makes sense to me; I was just pointing it out to the OP. Also, the Ecoboost is direct injected as the GenIV engines will be, and that certainly contributes to the efficiency as well.

It makes me wonder, actually; would Ford have been better off forgoing the twin-turbo direct-injected 3.5 six in favor of direct-injecting their 5.0 and 6.2 eights? I guess the DI LSs will give us a clue when they finally begin to break cover.

Ill def mill the heads. Just didnt know if them un ported would be any better than stock. Its an 02 motor. Ill look for a smaller cam. I know not bein direct injected will hurt a little but it shouldnt be over 1-1.5 mpg diff.

I've been thinking about this for a while as well. GM needs to drop the 4.3 liter all together and go with a small single turbo 4.8 liter. Put a 6L80E behind it but, and this would be key to making it efficient when cruising, put some 4.10 gears in it for a 2wd and 4.56s for a 4wd and feed it some spark advance. Lean cruise would really really help too but I don't think that will work and allow it to meet emissions.
Lugging the guts out of a 5.3 liter with active fuel management, a 6L80E and 3.08 gears is the stupidest way possible to chase fuel economy. If they could control the wind to always be at your back and make all roads downhill then sure that combo would be ideal. Lugging any LS engine around at 1500 rpms at highway speeds is only going to make it empty the gas tank faster.
