Anyone used a single in/out muffler with a Y-pipe for dual tailpipes?
I have a nice single in/out muffler that I want to put on my truck with dual tailpipes. I was wondering if anyone here has ever used a single in/out muffler then put a "Y" on it right after the muffler. I don't really understand what would be wrong with it, but my exhaust guy is a little leary of it saying that most of the sound will still come out of one tailpipe. I understand that this will happen a little bit because one of the tailpipes will have to be a little longer for the driver's side, but I don't see how this is any different than the catback systems with 2 tailpipes. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone had any opinions on this.

Almost all duel outlet pipes are for looks anyways, you aint gonna get any more power, but it would look real good with the pipes sticking out. I wish now I would have done that instead of the turn down hidden pipe. I saw a couple of lowered chevys that had duel 3" tips sticking out the back, and man that just looks cool, even knowing it is still not a true duel.

I'm doing it with dual tailpipes for looks only. The sound I want is coming from the muffer, but I just prefer to have two tailpipes, each exiting like the stock location, however with angle-cut tips that are sideways and flush with the edge of the body. The muffler I have is a Flowmaster 30-series muffler, single 3" in/out. Flowmaster does not make a dual out 30-series muffler, plus I already have the muffler from a Force II catback that came off of my Firebird. I really enjoyed the sound of it since it is quite mellow for a Flowmaster, and the interior resonance is much less, plus it's just sitting around doing nothing. This muffler seems to have a sound that's noticably different than most other Flows, and I kinda like it.
