Default Auburn or Eaton?

I have an open rear end w/ 3.42s now. I've decided on 4.10s, but I'm not sure which "posi" unit that I want. I've heard good things about both...does anyone have any horror story with either?

I just got a quote on gears, Auburn and installation w/ new bearings and such for $700. Sound about right?

And, just for the record, I might not be selling the truck after all. The Saturn might be on it's last leg.

I'm going with an eaton. they are rebuildable and seem to be the opinion on what to go with on several boards. The price sounds about right on. My swap is looking like it's going to cost me between $700 and $800 for doing the same thing.

I had an Auburn limited slip on my S-10. Installed it myself and that was 130,000 miles ago. Never a problem.

If you have never driven with a limited slip before, take it easy the first time you dirve in slippery conditions, there are a few differences in the way traction is lost

Thanks for the replies!

Oh, I have definitely driven PLENTY of cars with limited slip before! Why do you think I'm so eager to put it in the Sierra?

From my research they are both good units but one thing to consider down the road though. The Eaton unit is rebuildable whereas the Auburn is not. However for about the same price of a rebuild kit for an Eaton, you can send you auburn in and they will send you a new one.

Tokez: I got my eaton for $350. Installation shouldn't be more than $200 or so.
DON'T go to 4wheelparts unless you want to get bent over.

Okay, so the Eaton is reabuildable. How often would it need to be rebuilt?

DETRIOT LOCKER! Those things are unbreakable. At least with a 4.8. J/K
