Default Bad fuel pump?

I've been trying to pin down the stalling problem on the Tahoe and changed the fuel filter. The fuel in the filter was black, bad fuel pump right? But which one the intank or the inline. Is there a way to test the intank pump without removing the tank?I've had to replace the intank before, but when it went bad before the truck would't crank or run at all.

If I remember right, the inline pump is after the filter.

Usually when a fual pump goes out, it's out. Unless the other is getting some fuel past the dead one.

I'll try bypassing the inline and see what happens.
