BBC mark IV with Vortec 7400 fuel injection, deos it work???
Hello guys,
I have bought a 540 BBC short bolck with a lot of goodies
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWN:IT&ih=001
and would like to implant a the fuel injection of Vortec 7400 / 454cid:
http://jobyteknik.homeip.net/pickup/2005-11-08_454/ (did not find a better source)
I know a guy who sells the a Vortec 7400 injection system (I think the name is MPFI) and he told me that he knows that the swap would work as he got another one also installed on a mark IV BBC
What elso would I need except the.
1, Plenum
2, Harness
3, Computer
4, probably the stock fuel pump or one with the right preassure
5, Injectors
6, Fuel rails
What sensors are included,?
Can I convert the distributor to a cam trigger working with the Vortec EFI?
What hints would you give me for that swap?
Any help appreciated
Kind regards
Hannes

The Vortec 454 is a hundred cubes less then a 540, and the MPFI is designed for peanut port heads. Your going to run out of air and fuel real *** quick with that intake set-up. Arizona speed and marine "if they still exist" made some damn sweet BBC fuel injection systems.
Or you could get a holley 950 commander TBI which is very good for big cubic inch motors and not all that expensive. One guy years ago in car-craft got 2 of them to work togather on a old cross-ram. Plus the system will control your timing if you have the appropiate distributer.
The only Big Block I ever built was a PAW 496 kit I put into a 75 C-20, and with a re-worked, flowed, and 500 dollers later Q-jet still needed a bit more carb. I was told my carb flowed about 850 CFM as it started life out as a 800 cfm piece, and this was capable of being a daily driver.
I believe the 572's Chevy has out now start with a 1050 CFM, and Reiher Morrison as I understand start with 1250's on there 500 inch plus motors.
So I would go with 2 of the holley TBI's controlled with the comander system on a dual quad intake. Get the matching MSD distributer, and get out there and have some fun. Or get the ram jet 502 system or equivalent as they might have a chance to feed a hungry 540. If they all fail to to give enough CFM you always have Dominators.
