Default belt/pully squeak...please help

Need help with 1998 chevy silvy, ext cab, 4x4 5.7 with 70K.

so in the last few months(6-7mo) ive replaced the water pump, alternator, ider pully and tension arm and pully(did these 2 twice). i have this god awful squeak coming outta the belt/pullies that i cannot figure out. when this all started and i replaced the pullies, i replaced the old belt with a new gates belt. ive warranteed out 2 belts and everytime i warranty a belt and put a fresh one on, the squeak goes away. but 4-5 weeks after i put a new one on it comes back. friend of mine thats a mechanic "thinks" its the a/c compressor.
but the squeak seems like its coming off the passenger side of the belt system, not the drivers side.

Also had another mechanic tell me to use a gatorback belt and that will fix it.

anybody experienced this or have any knowledge on this, help PLEASE!

TIA

I have the same exact problem, only mines after doing the power steering pump. I put a new gates belt on after the pump, it went for about 2 months before squeaking again. I warantied that belt and replaced the idler and tensioner, lasted about 2 weeks. Now its squeaking horribly again. Im afraid to purchase the gatorback belt because I need to know for sure that it will fix the problem if its the gates belt causing it.

I was having the same prob...changed both tensioners, and a cpl pulleys. Ultimately I went with a slightly longer belt and that was the answer. U have any belt dust? Try the .5 longer belt...R/

sounds like we have the exact same problem. i went ahead and bought the gatorbelt, ive spent enough trying to fix the problem whats another $36. pretty neat belt the way they are designed with the cross cuts in the belt. truck was squeaking worse than it ever has, threw the gator belt on and it went away, like it always does when you put a new belt on. so i guess we will see how the next few weeks go.

icedenali--thats the same squeak/scream i have. does it none stop, idle, WOT, all the time. ive changed the tenioner and idler pully as well as the actual tensioner arm, alternator and water pump. crank pully, compresor and power steering pump is all thats left to be replaced. but when the belt is off, the ones i can spin by hand are nice and tight and silent when spinning by hand.

guess im not the only one battling this, so anybody have an ideas as to what is causing this? or anyother fixes?

I work at a GMC dealership and we usually check the power steering pulley. most of the time we find it is pushed to far on or not far enough. adjust your power steering pulley and it will fix your problem
