belt/pully squeak...please help

Can this be done on a factory pump? if so how? i did a quick look and didnt see any adjustment on mine, it appears to be factory.


update on the gatorbelt, was goin fine for the first week. took the truck on a quick camping trip, no squeaking but...

went to leave today from work and had a few squeaks when i started it up, after about 60 seconds it went away, this is usually what it starts to do after i put a new gates on but usually takes a month. guess we will see how it does throught the week. maybe there is more to this power steering pump adjustment that will potentially fix it.

you need to look at your pulley and see if the shaft in the center is sticking out past the pulley or inside of the pulley depending on which you have, you would need a power steering pulley installer or remover to move the pulley

SUBJECT: ACCESSORY DRIVE BELT NOISE DUE TO POWER STEERING PUMP PULLEY MISALIGNMENT (PROPERLY ALIGN PULLEY)

MODELS: 1996-98 CHEVROLET AND GMC C/K, M/L, S/T, G, P TRUCKS 1996-98 OLDSMOBILE BRAVADA WITH 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L AND 7.4L ENGINE (VINS W, X, M, R, J, N--RPOS L35, LF6, L30, L31, L29, L19)

CONDITION:

SOME OWNERS MAY COMMENT ON ACCESSORY DRIVE NOISE.

CAUSE:

THE POWER STEERING PUMP PULLEY MAY BE MISALIGNED WITH THE END OF THE PUMP SHAFT.

CORRECTION:

IN ADDITION TO THE NORMAL SERVICE FOR THE ABOVE CONDITION, IT IS CRITICAL THAT THE PULLEY IS FLUSH WITH THE END OF THE POWER STEERING PUMP SHAFT. IF IT IS NOT, REFERENCE THE APPROPRIATE SERVICE MANUAL FOR PROPER SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS.
