Re: Best prices on asm headers
If you have a 4.8, I wouldn't suggest getting the cam until AFTER you get a converter, some gears, and some sticky tires.
So, my vote goes for converter and slicks, with a posi if you don't already have it (which would be a little more than a grand, but oh well.)

The best bang for the buck for an automatic is usually a torque converter upgrade. You can expect to see a 3-5 tenth improvement depending on traction.

Re: Best prices on asm headers
Thanks the idea's! Would a HPP3 or LS1 edit be a good starting point for a stock p/u? I would need one later to adjust if I were going to maybe a 4.10 gear...
I was thing maybe:
HPP3 = $300 and dual flowmaster 50's = $350 and maybe ASP pullys?? does that sound about right for about $1000??

You're going to need some way to adjust your speedo if you change gears.
JET makes a module called the SCU-2000 that will allow you to make adjustments to your speedo/odo for tire size and/or gear changes.
They are relatively cheap (~$150) but do not offer any kind of performance enhancement like the HPPIII.
My vote is still for the converter/gears/posi route first, then build the HP when you can make better use of it!

Re: Best prices on asm headers
This may seem old school, but back in the day, I thought that the proper order was
1. Headers
2. Converter
3. Gears
4. Cam
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is what my old man taught me when I was growing up. I think that it still holds true to this day...
