Better gains with 6.0 vs.5.3
ok this is the truck and current mods:
2000 GMC Sierra 5.3l ECSB Z71 (100,000 miles)
Nelson tune (91-93 oct)
elec fans
K&N FIPK
40 series w/no cats
ASP Pulleys
160 stat
shift kit w/ super srvo
trailblazer stall (2300RPM)
15.2 @ 89
i was planing on getting a 6.0 and installing
.218/.550 114lsa (have)
ti retainers (have)
918 springs (have)
hardened pushrods (have)
dual magnaflows (have)
LT headers (throleys)
elec cutouts
but money is getting a little low, and im note sure if i will have enough to buy the 6.0. would it be worth my time and money to keep saving and get the 6.0 or to just install the parts i have and want to get in the 5.3? im trying to accomplish low low 14's on motor then get a wet shot. would that be realistic with the 5.3?
also do i really need the retainers? i could sell them and get some more money?
thanks in advance

You are dead on for the 6.0 and cam choices, you would be right were you want to be for ETs.If you are a good shopper $1300 would be the high side for a 37K mile 6.0.I seen on car parts.com there was a burned top for $800,all you need is the longblock. You might consider a 2400 stall while the engine is out, have a stocker rebuilt have the torque converter shop bend the fins.Should be done for under $200.I see you have a stall,ok.You have a good base of mods Go 6.0 or dont go at all, nice to see a realist.
I wouldnt waste your time or energy putting that cam in the 5.3,you would regret the results, you have a few tunes mailed back and fourth the motor would pull hard between 4k-6K RPM and everywhere else would be a disapointment.
