What's the biggest or best cam that I could run in my 1999 5.3L Silverado without requiring ANY tuning whatsoever? I want some more power but I don't feel like messing with fuel and timing tables etc. What can the stock computer handle?

with the stock tuning the best cam would be the STOCK cam

well, all cams will need some tuning unless you just stay with an LS6 cam, it doesn't set misfires as much as the other cams. i would say something like my cam or maybe a tr220(what i was going to run in this motor originally) would be about the biggest for a stock computer. smokeur5.0 has a good size cam with stock tuning i believe also.

mine is too big really for stock tuning. Too much of a pain in the *** having to deal with surging and dying at stops. I would say the ls6{2001}

plus you really dont need a huge lift cam with out doing some head work. Head with only flow so much and if you go to big you will gain less than if you went with a smaller cam

Red, i think mine and your cams are just about the borderline on the stock TRUCK tuning as far as cams go. i think our heads flow good enough for our cams also. i think a good cam for a truck is the 02-03 ls6 cam, on a stock 5.3 that cam and a set of heads with 2.0 or 2.02" intake valves that would kick ***.

2002 Z06 cam is the best cam for your needs. My buddies truck has it in there with no tuning, expect for a hypertech(shiftpoints). It runs damn good. Ask Slowverado, he has seen it at the track before. You would be smart to buy a converter also, the cam will loss some low end.
The stock computer will handle it fine. It will start the first time and idle perfect. No misfire or MAP codes.

his truck ran pretty good in the heat when i saw it run. ran really well on the bottle with that big split nitrous/boost friendly cam.

Who all has run the 2001? with no headwork i think you would be fine with the 2001. i dont think your low end will suffer as bad with it as well if i remember the specs right

the 02 is a little bigger, not a ton bigger, and makes way better power, and looses about the same low end. so, for the same price why not go with the better cam???
