None of my SUV's or truck with automatics go without a aux cooler and I have one tranny 25 years old and still going strong because of it and it has had a wicked life too. I have little doubt that the 700R4 in my burb would not have lasted 170k and 15 years and still being going strong if I had relied on its stock cooler on a dozen plus cross country trips and traviling through southwest passes heavily loaded in summer at 100 degrees plus with A/C on!!! It was out there last year and it is going back again next year too.
If I were planning on pulling anymore then that I would have gotten a bigger truck! And BTW, what kind of nut joins a forum such as this less then 2 weeks ago and already has 239 posts about nothing helpful at all??? 22.97 posts per day? I think you need to check into an internet re-hab...as you definately have a problem with excessiveness!

Sorry to hear that.

I'm with JamesB - Heat didn't get you, a mechanical failure from shock/stress did...

Do you know how many washers were put in the 1-2 accumulator?

thanks for all the replies, i'm still trying to decide which transmission will work for me, i'm looking at the flp level 4 4l60e and 65e and the dr. evil street evil. I think since i'll be upgrading the trans i'll get something that will be able to handle a 6.0 swap in the future, will I be able to get by without a 4l80e and still swap a 6 liter and spray a 100-150 wet shot on it? I'd rather not go with a 4l80e because of the extra drivetrain power loss. I'm not sure what kinda washers were used but i know the shift kit was set up at the lowest level possible (least hard shifts), even with the extra stress on it from the shift kit it doesn't seem like it should crap out so soon, guess I just got unlucky.

Damn... I've got a Transgo, vette servo, and metal accumulator going in this weekend. I was going to run the lowest setting because I don't want hard shifts...

Marc- You should be ok as long as you keep the line pressure down which can firm up the shifts, ie. don't use a programmer/custom tune to firm it up too much, and you might leave in some TM. With the 65e you should be in alot better shape than me to begin with though.

Right before I chunked all of my planetaries, mushroomed the input shaft into the drum and tosted my band and clutches. It wasnt because I didnt have an aux cooler though, I have one of the big B&M Supercoolers. It was just that tranny's time to go.

Fastsprint02... go ahead, bit the bullit and get a built tranny. I am currently on #3 stock replacement. The first two only had vette servos in them. This one got a transgo right after it was put in and it seems to be holding up better than the others but I belive the 3-4 clutches are starting to go. So I am planning on a rebuild/buildup soon. btw.. the only reason I went with sertas before was because they were convered under warranty.

If I were you I would stay away from Performance Transmisison(transmissioncenter.net). I live about 15 miles from them and let sjust say they arent known for being too honest. They have a Better Buisness Bureau file that isnt to shabby-Ive seen it. My buddies Dad tried to get a 3000 TCI stall installed from them and lets just say after the 3rd time they installed a Midwest 2200 and (2) 2600 he sais screw it. He also paid for each one and the labor for all 3 times.(I have no clue why). Their website will draw you in but dont let them fool you. I know like 1 or 2 people on here have gotten parts from them but I wouldnt get a tranny buitl by the-who knows what kind of parts they would use. They also must be real good friends with the local PD because they are always there!
